Day 4
March 6, 2005

We weren't really sure about what to do this day because of Tony's knee. It was getting pretty bad and he wasn't up to pushing himself around on his bike all day. We ended up back in Atlanta since we didn't get a chance to ride much of it the day before. Tony and Casey just hung out at the car most of the day looking at magazines and watching the flatlanders who happened to be sessioning the parking lot that day. I can't say that I remember their names(I wanna say Chris and Jeff), but they were really good. And it got me stoked to practice hang-fives more.

The first spot we went to was the first spot we got kicked out of the day before. This time we lasted a little longer, but were eventually asked to leave. We did have enough time for Jim to call out a huge gap to pedal grind, though. We would come back for that later.
Some of the spots we hit and the order we hit them in is kind of a blur. So I'll just ramble off some of the good stuff that went down throughout the day.
Jim pulled the gap to pedal grind he called out. Jon pulled a tall curved kinker rail(almost barspun off). I pulled a gap to levitator grind on a cement ledge. Troy did a pedal grind on the outside of a long curved ledge with a huge drop. And Mojo and Tony OPC'd each other with a poop-stained napkin they found in the weeds at the aforementioned ledge.

After Atlanta we began our trip back to Ohio, but made a stop in Chattanooga, Tennessee to ride the famous spine gap at the aquarium. On our way there we stopped at a Kroger for gas and saw some pretty wild stuff go down. There were two girls driving, I mean speeding, through the parking lot flipping people off. It became apparent who they were trying to irritate when we saw a Kroger employee run a shopping cart into the side of their car as they drove by. It left a pretty big dent and he continued to shout at them as they surveyed the damage at the end of the lot. The girls made a few remarks back and next thing we know he's running towards them with a knife. The girls screamed and jumped back into the car. For some reason we couldn't figure out they wouldn't leave. They kept driving around the parking lot as he chased them around pushing shopping cart after shopping cart in their direction. The girls eventually left after the dudes friends showed up. I think they were probably going to kill them if they were givin the chance. We left just as the dude and his friends were starting a fight with Kroger managers.

On to Chattanooga... we went straight to the aquarium. I'll just list what went down on the spine. Troy did some nice tire grabs, Jim clicked some turndowns, and Brett boosted some big tables. It's not like a normal spine you'd see at the skatepark. It's a pretty gnarly jump.
We rode around Chattanooga for awhile looking for some different spots. We found some really fun, but sticky, handicap rails. And some fat stone rails/ledges. But eventually Brett, Tony, Jim, and myself went back to the car to catch a nap before the long drive home. While we slept Jon found a couple rails and a nice gap. Somewhere around 2 or 2:30 in the morning we finally began the drive for home.

Trying to follow Jon in Atlanta traffic as he drives 85 mph and cuts across multiple lanes sucks.

But in the midst of losing each other and taking wrong exits we found this. Jim Baaske.

This thing took up the entire length of the parking lot and had a gnarly bump/hip in the middle of it. But we didn't last long. Troy Merkle carvin' it before we had to leave. A hotel maid tipped us off and said her manager was going to call the cops.

Brett sliding one of the rails at Woodruff Park. Woodruff park is home to many homeless people. Some of them cheered, some of them shook their heads, and I'm pretty sure one of them had boobs and a beard.

I knew I should have written their names down... these guys ruled, even though I can't quite remember their names at the moment. Sorry guys. If you read this email me and I'll fix it. bud.perspectivesbmx[at]gmail.com.

Now this is a hang-five.

My flatland vocabulary is horrible. I'm not sure what you call this trick, but it's rad to watch.

Jim hauled ass and gapped over all of those steps to pedal grind this not-so-smooth ledge.

This spot would be really sweet if it didn't have those metal sculptures fastened to the top of every other bump.

Levitator grind. Bud Dickman.

Troy Merkle, pedal feeble.

The first thing we did in Chattanooga was stop at the aquarium, and Jim was boostin' some air over it right away.

Brett rides the flow everyday and it shows. He goes fast and high.

Jim Baaske with a turndown over the aquarium jump.

Another turndown from a different angle.

This is the only picture we got of Troy riding the aquarium and it rules.

After our session at the aquarium we decided to look for more stuff. Jon found this weird rail/ledge. It was really fat and rounded at the top, and rough. Him and Troy sessioned it for awhile, though. Feeble.

Jon Bechtold, icepick.

Rail manual.

I told you that Mojo doesn't use toilets. Troy pulls a rail ride while Mojo pulls a downtown piss break.

This one is for Ben Stalets and tighttranniesbmx.net.

Casey was tryin' feeble to hard 180's on this rail, and I promise you he was pullin' so hard that he would have pulled a hard 360 a few times if he hadn't put a foot down. Casey's from the dirty south.

The Gremlin, wallride over the rail.

After wallriding it he turned around and icepicked it.

While a few of us slept in the car Jon gapped out of this bank into the street.
