Day 2
March 4, 2005

The crew was now together. It was Jon Bechtold, Tony Cherry, Joey "Mojo" Vance, Casey Longshore, Brett Peltier, Jay Thomas, Troy Merkle, Jim Baaske, and myself. The first thing we did was pedal for the University of Georgia campus. If you've seen the Odyssey video you've seen some of the spots in Athens, Georgia. Most(if not all) of Jim Cielencki's part was filmed between Athens and Atlanta. Athens is mostly rails with a couple ledges and banks. So the first spot we hit was a rail of course. From there we grabbed a little bite to eat and split up into two groups.

Jay, Jim, Brett and myself headed for a brick bank to rail while the others went in the opposite direction. We rode the bank for a few minutes. Jay was able to pull a few 180's over before we got the boot. The lady was realy nice about it, though. She just told us that they were holding a seminar and that we weren't allowed to ride there at the moment. So we left with plans of coming back later.

On our way out of that spot we met up with the other group and formed back into one. Mojo mouthed off to a couple college kids who made fun of our bikes, and we hit up some rails down the street. This was probably one of the most sessioned spots all day. Some good stuff went down. The first rail was a double kinked rail with square tubing just wide enough for a tire. So it was perfect for Casey to feeble grind, and he did. About 30' down the sidewalk from those rails were two more double kinked rails, but these curved. The curve went to the right. Troy and Brett sessioned the left rail, and Jay managed to grind outside of the curve on the right perfectly.

We eventually went back to the brick bank as a group and sessioned it for quite awhile. Next to the bank was a set of 9 stairs with rails. Troy did a sprocket stall over to double peg down the stairs a few times. Jay 180'd the rail both ways numerous times and jumped over the stair rail back into the bank. From this spot we headed to some other banks and ledges. The bank was pretty tall and steep, but that didn't keep Tony from barspinning it. The ledges were around the other side of the building. They were 10 stairs long, steep, and had a kink at the end. I think most of us feebled them a time or two, but Jim and Jay stepped it up. Jay 180'd off of it from feeble and pedal grinds, and double pegged down it once. And Jim manualed down it smooth as butter first try.

At this point we took a break for some pizza and headed back to the apartment. That evening we rode some more rails. Jim took it on a fairly long rail a few times. Once Mojo convinced him to wear the headband he pulled it like a champ. Mojo took it a few times on a rail at the same spot. After wrecking a few times he told us he was gauranteed to fall on his next attempt. He also said he was gauranteed to get some college girls attention when he's laying on the ground in pain. He was sure that he'd get some sympathy, so he went at the rail one more time thinking he'd fall and get sympathy points. He pulled it smooth as ever. It was the headband.

It was beginning to get dark and some of the guys wanted to head back so they'd have energy for Atlanta the next day. So Jim, Tony, Troy, and myself went out for an evening street session while the rest went back to the apartment. We found a couple fun little spots. Troy did a gap off of a drop into a grass bank, and we found a little cement pad to nose manual and do hang-fives across. Tony got a flat at that spot so we started walking back to the apartment. On our way I spotted a 10 stair rail with a kink. After sliding it and nearly landing in the street we called it a night.

Mojo sliding the "warm-up rail"

Brett Peltier.

Troy on the same rail.

Jay Thomas: outside curved kinked rail.

Casey Longshore: feeble double kink rail.

Jay 180'd this rail oppositte too, then hopped back over it into the bank.

Casey and Mojo catchin' some rays at the brick bank.

Tony Cherry.

Troy Merkle: sprocket stall over to rail.

Troy did a sprocket stall over to smith once, but put a foot down when he came off.

Casey: feeble across the width of the bank.

Brett Peltier, takin' a breather.

Brett: table at the steep banks.

Tony Cherry barchuckin' it.

Tony.

Jay: feeble to 180.

Jay: pedal grind to 180.

Troy.

Jim Baaske manualing it.

Brett grinding a long rail.

Jim pulling the rail that took him out a few times.

Jon taking his turn on the rail.
